A couple hours after the plant opened this morning, the Asst.
Controller told me Vantage was down, She was seeing the standard "No
servers available" message when she tried to log in. I tried to log
in and saw the same message once then I got this one:

Invalid Logon
X Request failure: Server refused connection (7251)

I checked the resources at the server but cpu and ram use were
normal so I stopped and restarted the Live processes using the batch
files supplied by Epicor. When it came back up all was fine again.

Is there something else I should have done to further isolate the
cause? I hate stopping the database during normal working hours but
this time it seemed to be the most expedient way to get everyone up
and running.

I know it stinks, but would probably do the same Ken for a speedy fix.

I think it's very ironic that so many of us are getting this error recently... NO?

I had it two days in a row. The second day I had Epicor Support poke around before I restarted all Appservers. They looked for 20 mins and found nothing... no red flags. I resorted to restarting the Appservers, too.

However..... today {knock-on-wood} all is well. I sat in front of the server and closely monitored it when our plant opened. All went OK today.

What I did yesterday is get into Progress Expl Tool and go to the properties of MfgSys803 and went to AGENT--> Pool range and upped all 3 values to 20 (Initial # of servers to start, minimum servers and maximum servers)

In the Performance tuning guide they state to do this for SQL customers. I don't know if it also applies to Progress customers, but maybe worth a try. Nothing worse than a 6:30AM bad day already.

I am also on 404b. SQL. Odd.......

Yes, the Progress version of the Performance Tuning Guide has the
same recommendation. I downloaded it from the Epicor site after I
saw Nigel's posting this week.

We are also still having problems today. Our problems started on
January 5, 2009; but we are still assuming that our problems are due
to bringing about 6 additional clients on line on that date. Our
Vantage 8 server does not meet the minimum Epicor-recommended
hardware specs for our number of users. We've known for some time
that we would need to purchase a new server for Vantage 8, but we've
been putting it off.

We're on Progress Vantage 8.03.404. Restarting the appservers each
day seems to help.

are you looking for a cleaner as your subject would suggest or an editor?

in my experience, a good cleaner is ccleaner (www.ccleaner.com). i normally use good old regedit for all my editing.

Thanks,
Kunal
