OT - Scanning and converting to Word

For the record,
I have OCR software however the folks here would like "Perfection" achieved
in the scanning to WOrd but I didn't think there was any solution. Thanks
for the help.

Most scanners come with OCR software where you get a direct scan to word
or whatever. That being said, I've tried with pristine clean text
documents and only achieved an 80 to 85% accuracy rate. The more
graphics on the page the lower your accuracy. If your scanner doesn't
come with an OCR package they are pretty easy to get and reasonable
cost.

OCR ( i.e. CuneiForm OCR) is doable but I've found I spend as much time correcting its "misses" and could easily have recreated the document form scratch in as much time.

The last few HP ScanJet scanners we have purchased came with fairly good OCR software but..... it really depends on the clarity and font of the original as far as how much cleaning up needs to be done. Sreif free fonts (Arial) do much better than those with them (like Times New Roman). We recently scanned several dozen forms that were only in paper format into Word for inclusion in our ISO documentation and with a little touch up they were nearly identical. If it is a one time project for a small number of pages I think Kinko's might be able to do it for less than buying a scanner.
