[OT] Server Room Environment

Troy,

The norm used to be 68 to 72 for the temp and 45% to 55% relative humidity,
not condensing (no water droplets appearing on the machines!). The high
humidity it there to help stop static.

There are several good computer room units that heat, cool, humidify, and
dehumidify. Liebert is the brand we have always used.

HI All,
We recently moved into a new facility, and wouldn't you know it, the
server room was so designed that it is one of the hottest rooms in the
building. Some recent changes to the air flow, etc. have helped keep things
cooler.

My question is: what is the optimal temperature and humidity for a computer
room? Currently the temperature is hovering at 73 degrees and around 44%
humidity.

Troy,

If you can keep it in the 70's I would say that's pretty optimal. In my
opinion for what its worth, I believe keeping a constant temperature is also
important. Tapes, hard drives, chips, etc... don't like expanding and
contracting. As for humidity you couldn't get bigger swings than I see in
Rockford, nose bleed in the winter, dripping in the summer. I try to keep it
between 40 and 60 percent relative humidity. And between 72 to 78 degrees
Fahrenheit.

Sounds like we're in that range, then. Thanks for the input, Patrick.
