[OT] Shop floor information displays

I've seen nice, slick solutions using www.strandvision.com

I'm not sure what your budget is.

If your budget is limited there's no reason why you couldn't create
something inhouse with an Access database and hit it with ASP via a
web-browser that auto-refreshes every X minutes. Gather some old junker
PCs and use them for this purpose.

We are looking at putting video screens at each on of our operator
stations that constatly display updated company news, customer
compaints, etc. Anyone doing this that might have a solution?

I created a program that runs on the vantage server and broadcasts URL's
every 30 seconds over several UDP ports. The URL's are entered into a
database along with a department number or "0" for all departments. I
then have old 486 computers on the shop floor in the departments with
monitors running another program that listens on a certain UDP port,
then when it receives a URL, it updates the display. Besides
announcements and company information, we also send ASP pages tying back
the the Vatnage ODBC so we see real time displays of who is clocked in
for that department and what jobs they are working on. I also wrote a
screen saver version that listens on a UDP port and also displays the
URLs. So all the shop computers when they go idle and the screen saver
kicks on, the same information screens are displayed on them also.
