(OT) Surf Control

You may want to have your consultant schedule a command to stop the service
as the backup starts and then restart it once the backup is done. The
command would be NET STOP service name to stop it and NET START service name
to restart your service. This is easier than having to reboot your server.
I've read on the newsgroups where there are communication problems with the
Surf Control service. Most people said that doing the above solved the
problem.

Hope this helps,

Subject: [Vantage] (OT) Surf Control

Looking for assistance from Surf Control users or anyone else that may have
insight into my problem.

Frequently (couple times a month) our Surf Control pc loses communication
(usually during my overnight backup) with our main server and in turn stops
all
our other pc's from communicating with the server. A reboot of the server
regains all communications. Application Event Viewer on the server shows the
following: The Surf Control Service is not listening. Notifications will be
queued until we can reconnect.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions? Is the problem at the
server
level or the Surf Control pc level? My IT consultant added the server to the
SurfControls's hosts and lmhosts file but that did not solve it and he said
he
may edit the server's hosts and lmhosts files. But we're kinda shooting from
the
hip right now.
