Two things...

1. There is an FTP service known as yousendit(dot)com. With a free
account, you can upload a file upto 100 MB. Monthly subscriptions allow
for files up to 2 GB. The cheapest monthly fee is $9.99 (less than
overnight delivery of a CD).

2. Why do Shirley's post have a date & time stamp of "Dec 31, 1969"?

Actually, its the first recorded date of the first message (Message #22 of
64,601 messages) in the groups message data base.

I have no idea what happened to messages #1 to #21. I'm pulling the entire
message database into access to see if its possible to organize it into a
reference document. Something on the order of "all discussions for version
5 scheduling in chronological order" and so forth. Don't know if its doable
or not but it might be a fun project to tinker with. (I started thinking
about it while searching for the famous "looney toons" thread.

It looks like I have not missed too many messages then. I have archived every group message since 9/12/2000 at 11:43am (except for maybe a few accidental deletes). I am on my fifth Outlook folder due to the folder limit of 16,384 messages. So far they total 61,629 so I am only missing a bit less than 3,000 from July/August of 2000. Having these messages on-hand and searchable has been definitely worth the disk space when researching a problem I know has been discussed before. It will later be HUGE when I start encountering 8.x issues.

Shirley,

My Vantage archive goes back to March 1999 when I signed up for the
Onelist hosted group. I think it had been running for quite a few
months before that even.

I see that the particular message for 7/10/2007 14:46 was posted by you.
Still has an egroups footer.

I don't think you're seeing message 22. I think Yahoo munged the group
database at some point after the egroups conversion. FYI my archive for
2000 has 9,394 messages, of which message 22 is actually message 4,133.

have fun,
john

Shirley,
I have an FTP and have stuck a copy of John's archive on it (with
permission). I will leave it there for the next week or two and then
remove it (as well as the user/pass to access it).
Anyone who would like a copy feel free to grab it in the next few days.
The compressed version is only 64 MB, so it's not so bad for download
either.
