OT: Version Control

I do, pretty much version control everything I'm modifying. Most of the content is either in a binary format (Crystal Report files) or in other complicated XML outputs that doing version diffs is meaningless, but it still allows you to track version and changes and roll back if you need.

I'd suggest Subversion and TortoiseSVN if on a Windows environment, it's pretty handy. Free and all as well.

I'm using CVS myself now and TortoiseCVS, but the latest free versions of the CVSNT has advertising automatically stuck in their check-in tags which is really pretty sad, so I'd avoid that.

If so, I'm curious to poll the group to see what you're using and if you
like it.

I was contemplating MS Visual Source Safe but there must be other
options out there and even perhaps free.

Thank you in advance!

I like subversion (subversion.tigris.org), which has a great Windows client (TortoiseSVN).

I don't actually use it to version control Vantage stuff (I tried to do it for reports but got lazy). I just export stuff into a central ERP directory with subdirectories for BAQs, BPMs, etc. and include the date in the filename. Works for me.

But if you want a real robust version control system, I'd avoid VSS and look at Subversion.

There's also Git (www.git-scm.com) which purports to improve on Subversion, and it has a Windows client called TortoiseGit.

I'd imagine either would work great.
