[ot] vpn

Troy
This is strictly from memory as I have no such machines on my network.
You add a second dialup adapter and it comes in as a VPN. If that is not it
I'm real close. Haven't done it in several years. Did it on Win 98.

HI Cliff,
IN my case, I don't need to run any apps over the network, just log onto
the network to access the folder structure and server name. So VPN is
enough, and is fairly simple once it is set up properly. I just have never
set up a VPN connection on a Client with Windows ME or XP Home and am
wondering if it's possible (it seems like it is) and if so, how is it done?

Troy
VPN's are too tricky for managers. I have one recommendation for you
"GOTOMYPC". All they need is an internet connection regardless of OS. I
have all of my Senior Staff and Mgrs on it. They love it, most of them
have
DSL and we have a T1 inbound - it's like zero lag.

It's very simple with XP Pro (using the "Create New Connection"

Is there a similar thing for Windows ME (and XP Home for that

Look on your Terminal Services server. Under Terminal Services- Client
Disk creator. You will need two formatted floppy disks. Loads easy just tell
it the ip of your server. Make sure you give the user permission to use RDP
in their network account. and on the TS server RDP connection. I'd suggest
make a group "external users" or something and add them to it.

Cliff,
I don't need the Terminal Services, only a VPN connect to our Firewall
so users can be on the network. I'm wondering if Windows ME or XP home have
the 'stuff' to VPN.

This one says yes to XP home:
http://www.lpt.com/windowsnetworking/regusers/xpvpn.htm

I didn't find anything on ME and VPN.

I haven't tried with ME or XP Home myself. I use XP Pro at home for my
VPN.
I was almost talked into getting XP Home for my home computer. But I knew
I'd regret it if I went for the $100 savings on XP Home. So I installed
XP
Pro.

Troy,

I could be wrong, but I think XP home doesn't have this feature - only
XP
Pro.

How do you set up a VPN connect on Windows ME? Is there built-in
software?
It's very simple with XP Pro (using the "Create New Connection"
wizard".
Is there a similar thing for Windows ME (and XP Home for that matter)??

VPN's are too tricky for managers. I have one recommendation for you
"GOTOMYPC". All they need is an internet connection regardless of OS. I
have all of my Senior Staff and Mgrs on it. They love it, most of them have
DSL and we have a T1 inbound - it's like zero lag.

HI Cliff,
IN my case, I don't need to run any apps over the network, just log onto
the network to access the folder structure and server name. So VPN is
enough, and is fairly simple once it is set up properly. I just have never
set up a VPN connection on a Client with Windows ME or XP Home and am
wondering if it's possible (it seems like it is) and if so, how is it done?
