[OT] Wake PC from Standby and/or Passworded Screensaver

Yes it does. When you are viewing a message you have an option to
download the attachment (BB Model 7230). I just e-mailed myself a Word
document and I was able to view the attachment.

Sorry about late response. I was on vacation thu/fri.

Would the Outlook forwarding handle file attachments as well? It looks
like the Blackberry redirect does not include them and I am getting
hints we need BES on the email server if we want attachments included.
I would rather not buy BES right now.

Thanks,

If you have Outlook and an Exchange Server, you can create a rule in
Outlook to redirect messages to your blackberry instead of using the
redirector with the Blackberry software. You will then be able to turn
off your workstation.

I need to fix something up from our President before he goes out of town
tomorrow.
He just got a Blackberry and his PC is redirecting his email so he must
leave it on. Windows-2000 Pro. For security reasons he wants either a
passworded screensaver (PC is already bootup pasworded) or to have the
PC drop into standby. Testing seems to indicate redirection of email
still happens in standby. But when it drops to standby it shuts off the
keyboard and screen. I know there is a way to wake it but can't find
it. I think it has something to do with the power switch - sort of like
the 5 second & off thing.

Also, when he tries just screensaver with a password it does not request
the password when he moves the mouse - neither does it allow setting a
password so we assumed it was his Windows/Network password that would be
used. Any tricks to this?

Thanks,

Never mind on the power up. One quick hit of the power button wakes it.

But still a mystery why he can't set a screensaver password.

Thanks,

Todd,

I don't know if this helps. But I have the same situation here. I just
leave my PC on (with my power settings always on and a screensaver).
When I leave, I just lock my computer. We have Sonicwall which limits
access externally, and internally someone would need my password to
unlock my PC. My PocketPC (similar to Blackberry) syncs my calendar,
contacts and e-mail every hour.

Under control panel / power options, there's a "require password when
computer goes off standby" that might do the trick.

Just a friendly FYI, if you purchase more than 10 Blackberry's till the end of this month, you will get Enterprise Server from RIM for free. It should handle the attachments, although I don't know where you would open them in a Blueberry ;)

Thanks,
Todd Caughey

When Outlook forwards - it forwards the attachments. So if the Blackberry
receives attachments now, then it will work just fine. I setup forwarding
from Outlook to a PocketPC phone and all the attachments came through just
fine. So any limitations will be with the Blackberry.

Good Luck,

Charles

> Just a friendly FYI, if you purchase more than 10 Blackberry's till the
end of this month, you will get Enterprise Server from RIM for free. It
should handle the attachments, although I don't know where you would open
them in a Blueberry ;)

like the Blackberry redirect does not include them and I am getting hints we
need BES on the email server if we want attachments included. I would
rather not buy BES right now.
