OT Web Filter Blank Title 78893

IMHO, then, the Cadillac of content-filters is Websense. FANTASTIC
reporting, including some excellent drill-down/interactive real-time
reports that can be configured to allow granular access to managers so
they can view the activity of their employees, but not the employees of
another manager.

I've also worked with suftCONTROL, X-Stop, and the built-in filters in a
Watchguard brand firewall, plus a few others I played around with during
my investigations (that led to Websense). Websense had them all beat,
but it comes at a price - it's VERY expensive, plus yearly maintenance
fees which are also expensive.

We were really interested in doing some reporting. But maybe we can use
OpenDNS while we attempt to select a heavier duty product.

Charlie -

If all you're looking to do is "filter" and don't really care about
reporting, check out OpenDNS
www.opendns.com

It's very easy to configure - you change the DNS servers listed in your
DHCP forwarding-server to point to OpenDNS, and when users attempt to
access a site in a blocked category, OpenDNS re-routes their request to
a block-page.

OpenDNS was originally developed to protect against malware, but they
added additional categories a couple of years ago. When Conficker was a
big concern a couple of months ago, OpenDNS had a note on the
admin-interface page showing whether any of your internal hosts had been
acting like compromised systems (by making DNS requests to known
Conficker targets).

Oh - and did I mention that it's FREE?!

I'm looking at web filtering appliances/ software. I've been eyeing down
the
Barracuda Web Filter. Does any one have any personal experience with
these?
What are your thoughts on this unit?

If any one has any other favorites let me know.

We aren't that big of an out fit. We would have anywhere between 50 and
100
users.
