[OT] Web Hosting Services

Todd -

I use JaguarPC.com - They are cheap, stable, and flexible. They are Linux
based and have the FrontPage extension support, but if your site is built
around ASP, it's not the place for you unless you like converting to PHP.

If you are running your own mail server, they can forward that traffic to
your server. Or you can manage your own DNS records yourself either through
Jaguar's affiliate AletiaNIC or signup for DNS services at DynDns.org.

I am open to suggestions from the group for a new web hosting service. Our current provider can not handle the FTP issue I had posted about earlier. For a variety of reasons I can not host our web site locally or setup a server to handle just FTP.

Our current provider has been reliable enough for the last 7 years but has really terrible customer service and technical support. There have been many issues in the past of not supporting things like streaming media, FrontPage 2002 extensions and even simple hings like "park & point" domain names. Not being able to handle FTP the way we need is the last straw.

Our site is very simple and involves no e-commerce, portal or database access. FrontPage extensions, streaming media, a handful of email addresses that can be pointed at addresses on our server plus FTP capabilities would be fine. What we have now costs under $50 a month (one reason adding $200/mo of extra line capacity does not make sense) so anything in that range would be OK. Excellent customer service and technical assistance are a must as is redundant server facilities and high capacity links at these sites.

Anyone have a good web hoster that would fit the bill? Anyone using 1&1 (or 1and1) for hosting or have prior experience with them?

Thanks,

I have been working with Iquest for almost 10 years. Very very stable
company. Their location is a secured underground bunker. They are state of the art
everything. I also used them as our ISP. Often they would call me to let me
know my Internet connection was down before one of my users. They do a very
good job of monitoring their network.
