OT Win2k Conection Problems [SMC WIRE FABRICATORS]

W2000 Server has a default "idle time" disconnect setting of 15
minutes. Run "regedit" and edit the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters

Maximum value is "65535" (45.5 days). A "-1" supposedly turns off auto
disconnect, but I haven't tried it. the 65535 works.

So that a Vantage user conference does not need to achieve "critical mass"
by itself, perhaps it makes sense for such an event to be held as part of a
larger Epicor user conference. The Epicor Users Group (EUG) holds such a
conference, which the EUG calls a forum. The EUG website address is
http://www.epicorusers.org <http://www.epicorusers.org/> . Maybe the time
has come for all of the regional VUGs to collaborate with the EUG to be able
to achieve some common objectives. Part of the EUG mission statement is to
"provide a forum for mutual education and exchange of ideas and information
among members", essentially the intent of the User4User conference.

Collaboration with the EUG may have benefits beyond the mutual education
aspect. Last week, I received a message from Rick Borg (Senior Vice
President and General Manager, Manufacturing Solutions Group, Epicor
Software) regarding an Epicor customer satisfaction survey. In his message,
Rick stated "we have increased our involvement with the Epicor User Group to
get specific feedback on the products and services we are delivering."
While this statement might not have pertained to Vantage specifically,
perhaps it could or should in the future.

I agree about the plane tickets, I hope they're refundable. I'm sure
they'll take a big chunk out for cancelling. My management was
excited about letting me go to this conference as opposed to Epicor's
expensive event. But if we get burned with a big cancellation fee,
they might think twice next time (if there is a next time).

Are you sure you want to hang around all those platinum/dataworks people.
Just kidding. I think you have an excellent idea. By becoming part of EUG
the vantage users would be able to gain more structure and back bone to our
group. But the big issue will remain, what small company will be able to
spend the money/time to work with the EUG?

I am not suggesting that the regional VUGs be replaced by the EUG.
Companies that currently send employees to a regional VUG could, and
hopefully would, still do so. Each VUG, in turn, would work with the EUG.
The EUG would become a consolidation point for providing feedback to Epicor
regarding Vantage, just as it is now regarding Manfact, Dataflo and Avanté.

Scott

I would agree that this would be good to try. When I think back to DECUS
(Digital Equipment Corp. User Society) and the way the VAX User Group
interacted with it it seemed to work pretty well. There was lots of VAX/VMS
user to user interaction and education within the framework of the larger
DEC user body. In particular a large number of user presented sessions and
user panels. Because these were such a draw the semi-annual conferences
were well attended so DEC and the user society waived part of the fee for
selected session presenters. This drew good session materials and thus more
people to attend in a positive reenforcement. So having a Vantage User
Group within the framework of a larger Epicor User Group conference might
work very well. It might mean extending the conference length by a day but
if the content was better it would be well worth it. JM2CW.

I have just migrated my file server to a new install of W2k. Users can
login and access the server. After awhile (I am having trouble getting a
firm time from people) the ckick on the I: drive shortcut and recive an
error that the drive is unavalible. if the log out and back in all is well.

This is only happening on the 2000 server I set up the new one with vantage
does not drop it's connection.

Any ideas?
