You can delete the template called Normal.dot and word will automatically
create the default template for you when you launch word, OR, you can
optionally create your default settings and save it as normal.dot in your
template directory. At least that's what I do..(not a word guru)

Somehow or another my 'normal' template that loads when Word opens has
changed (for some reason it always loads in landscape now instead of
portrait) and I would like to change it back to the way it was. I could have
sworn there was somewhere in options or elsewhere where you could specify
which template loads. I remember years ago on my home pc I had made my own
stationary and had that loaded when Word opened, just cant remember how to
do it .Word wont let me make changes to the normal template and save (duh)
without doing a save as.
I have created a new one and would like to use that one...
Help anyone???????

Michelle,

I think Kim Komando had this tip on her newsletter a few weeks back.
Normal.dot is the file Word looks in for settings if you don't specify
something else. If you search for the file normal.dot and rename normal.dot
to something else (never a good idea to delete anything till you know for
sure), Word will regenerate a default normal.dot. That should have
'portrait' as the default mode.
