Ot: xp sp 2

I have Crystal 8.5 on an XP machine with service pack 2 and have had no
problems. I also use the compiler on occasion and that works OK for me
also.

I can only speak to crystal Version 8 at the moment. I have compiled
reports that run fine with no issue on SP
2 boxes. However, I also have an idle XP box in my office and an
uninstalled Crystal 8.50 disk. I will update my idle box to service pack 2
and install Crystal 8.5 and see what happens.

I think the validation is solely directed at users of Wine and CXOffice
running MS apps on Linux.

Shirley, how about the claim that Crystal Reports will not work? I have
some new machines that have SP2 and they work fine with the firewall off,
but I'm concerned about Crystal.

Of course Microsoft's main concern is pirated software. The updates will
"Validate" that you have a legal copy, (according to several boards I watch
the hackers have already cracked the "Validation" process.) If your copy is
not deemed legal you will only receive the critical updates and not any of
the additional bloatware.... eh... "featured software" that can come down...
hmmm. The biggest issues seem to be the security features that Microsoft
has added. I have SP2 on several new machines; turning OFF the security
firewall resolves any problems. Unless there are deeper issues with SP2 and
Vantage I don't believe they've been widely shared.
