Overlapping product groups

We’re using Product Groups to categorize our sales, but the groups we have chosen have some overlap. Eg “Hydraulic Cylinders” and “Farm Equipment”. A cylinder for a tractor fits into both groups.

I’d like to assign both categories to the part sale somehow. And have it track all the way through SOs, Invoices, GL, reports etc. Without recustomizing everything…
Any ideas?

Perhaps we could do it with Sales Territory, or Customer Group… though I’m seeing those would box in a customer somewhat. Or maybe there is another OOTB field somewhere we should be utilizing?

Thank you!

Product Group has a field Product Family.
This would allow you take the groups to be pulled together for reporting.

A different option would be to use the sales catagory for types of sales.
Parts and Assemblies could be used.

Ok thank you for response. I’m not seeing Product Family… is that a field added in a recent version?

Looks like we’re going to adjust our Product Groups to avoid overlap, use Customer Group to further categorize. I’m seeing now that Customer Group is already used in the built in Sales Gross Margin report.

If you add in the sales category you can flex the department segment of the Revenue and COS accounts to give you P&L by product and category.
Very powerful.

Could you use dynamic attributes for this?
