-P parameter in database start

Although I have not seen this exact error, I do know the -P startup
parameter is for the password. Without seeing your exact setup/startup
files, it would be kinda hard to debug.

I would make one suggestion, however. Use Progress Explorer for starting
and stopping the 5.x databases. It is more functional, stable and user
friendly than ProControl.

Subject: [Vantage] -P parameter in database start

I am setting up a test platform on a new server to convert from 4.0 to 5.x.
I restored our nightly backup of the Vantage database to the
Epicor\Vantage\db folder on the new server. When I try to start the
database (in ProControl) I get an Application Event message telling me the
-P parameter is missing. I have no such parameter for any of the other
databases on our live server. So, I'm curious where this -P is supposed to
go and what it is for. I've checked back through old group messages and can
find no reference to -P. Any other words of wisdom for setitng up a test
server would be welcomed too.

Thanks,

4.0.812 - once I get it looking OK (like a duplicate of our live server) I
will start the upgrade process to see how it goes.
AHAA! Just thought of something - the Live DB is Progress 9.0B37 and I don't
believe I applied that patch to the test server yet. maybe that's it. I'll
go do the patch and try it again.

What is currently installed on your new Test server? 4.0 or 5.0 or 5.1?
