On our parts, we have the actual item weight but that does not account for whatever combination of items a customer orders and therefore what packaging materials are added to the order for shipment. When we go to create international customs paperwork, sometimes there is more packaging materials added and we currently go in an manually estimate the weights on the items to get the paperwork closer. A thought is to add a “dummy” part number to account for the additional adder weight. Is there a better way to manage that?
I’m assuming a few things about your process, but I would guess that a country-aware BPM on ShipHead could see when it’s an international shipment and add an arbitrary (or referenced in a table somewhere) weight amount to the total Pack Weight.
Thank you for the information. Yes that would work if we were doing straight shipments. Many of these shipments are ICPO related shipments and so I’m thinking we may run into issues receiving at our other company.
