Les-
I'm only running V3 on a dual P2-333 with 320mb RAM, but I have page set
for 160mb on first vol and an additional 800mb on 2nd vol. This is
equivalent to 3x RAM, but it's still on the "conservative" side. Isolating
the vast majority of page to a vol reserved for nothing but the page is
advantageous ONLY if that vol is a separate physical drive. Performance
gains garnered from setting page to a RAIDed volume are lost if the volume
is NOT a separate physical drive.
I said "conservative." Some workstation apps (such as SolidWorks) REQUIRE
a page that is between 5x and 6x RAM, i.e., if the workstation is equipped
with 768mb RAM, then the page should be set for 4608mb. Most first volumes
I have seen are set as 2gb, with the balance of the physical drive set as
the second partition. The W2Kpro operating system (only speaking from my
experience) does not allow a page on the second vol in excess of 4gb, so
the max page can only be 4gb plus whatever you can squeeze onto the first vol.
All that said, don't discount the -B setting for Vantage.
