We wanted the same thing, we put a bpm in place to populate a date field.

Change log is the only thing I know for sure Notes Date, time, userID & initial value. You'd want to enable logging on a Part field (or several that are of interest to you) as it is established before PartPlant. Weakness is the log file is lost if the record is deleted (unless you write a process to archive & retain it in near real time).
