Man, I can't do anything right today! I'm going home!

What if a data entry person makes a typo when entering a revision,
wouldn't
you want to just delete it?

Patrick is correct. The document links do seem to be out there when you
add
the revision back.

Thanks Shirley for your response. The document with hyperlinks sounds
good.
We are going to check into that.

I checked with my programmer, Stephen, and he is going to disable the
"delete" button on that screen. We don't think we need to delete
revisions
for any reason. This should take care of the problem.

Thanks again!!

We have encountered a problem with part revisions that just surfaced
today.
The drawing control people tell me that part revisions are being lost...
just vanishing. I on the other hand like to think they were just
deleted.
I checked into this and you can pull up a part, click on the revision
and
when you click the delete key there is a small "are you sure" yes or no
prompt, click yes and it's gone. This ditches the revision, BOM and the
document links. The real thing that kills me is the revisions are
"approved" and Vantage will let you delete it without adding a change
log.

We are still on version 4.0 with the latest patch. Can anyone on 5 or
5.1
tell me if it still works this way.

Thanks

I have a real head scratcher. One person here can not print any RB reports
to a particular printer. A new HP LaserJet 2200. The person whose PC it is
on prints to it fine as does another person it is shared to . The person
with the trouble can print Word, Excel, Crystal, Vantage reports all OK ....
anything except RB reports. He can login elsewhere and print RB to that
printer OK. Everyone else can print RB reports to it OK.

He gets a message like (can't recall exact wording)
--"Not a specified printer or valid port"--

So I don't think it is a share permission and not a Vantage user settings.
My latest thoughts have been something in the driver on his PC but
everything else prints OK so I am mostly currious as to why only RB has a
problem.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

If he print previews the report, can he print the report using the print
buton in the print preview window?

We have a similar issue printing RB reports with vantage 3 clients on
windows 2000. Basically the solution is to print from the print preview
window.

He can print from the preview screen but it does not go to his default
printer (the 2200). Rather it goes to a HP 8000 printer way across the
building which happens to be my default printer and probably what I was
using when I wrote the report. It does not "obey" his default. Similarly
when printing from preview you can't select a printer as you can if not
previewing. Also he is using Win98se. When he prints without previewing it
errors immediately after the filter window.

Once upon a time I thought I read something quirky about Vantage's "Save
Settings on Exit" and an effect on printers but I don't recall what it was
(or maybe just a memory phantom in my Friday afternoon brain).

Thanks,
-Todd

Todd:

I had that problem and called Support. Here is the resonse (460473):

Rick,

This is in response to the call you created via Support Net in reference to
a client not having the ability to run a RB report from his machine. I
recommend that you go into Add/Remove programs from that workstation, remove
Progress 8.3A Shared Network installation. Then, from that workstation, go
into Windows Explorer, to your mapped drive, then dlc\netsetup. Run
setup.exe to reinstall the Progress shared client. Make sure you say YES to
use as the default for all users. Then try to access the report again after
relogging in as the user. Thank you.

We have encountered a problem with part revisions that just surfaced today.
The drawing control people tell me that part revisions are being lost...
just vanishing. I on the other hand like to think they were just deleted.
I checked into this and you can pull up a part, click on the revision and
when you click the delete key there is a small "are you sure" yes or no
prompt, click yes and it's gone. This ditches the revision, BOM and the
document links. The real thing that kills me is the revisions are
"approved" and Vantage will let you delete it without adding a change log.

We are still on version 4.0 with the latest patch. Can anyone on 5 or 5.1
tell me if it still works this way.

Thanks

Yes, it still works that way. We havent had much trouble with people making
deletions., and we use a single document with hyperlinks to the appropriate
documents so a lost link is easy to recover.

Subject: [Vantage] Part Revison

We have encountered a problem with part revisions that just surfaced
today.
The drawing control people tell me that part revisions are being lost...
just vanishing.

Thanks
Paul Lipham
