We do not use Epicor payroll but we do use Epicor MES via workstations to capture payroll data (as well as all job data, etc). We switched from timeclocks to MES about 8 years ago. We ran concurrently for a while then we just got rid of the timeclocks. We have a utility that converts our Epicor MES data into the format needed to upload our data to ADP which we do bi-weekly. For us the Epicor MES works very well. Not sure if that helps at all…
We're well on our way to launching our Epicor 10 install to our users. One feature we're unsure of is the HCM module and payroll.
Currently, we're using an outside vendor for payroll. We want to move it in-house and have purchased the HCM module. However, we're being told we can't use time clocks and everyone has to log-in via a computer.
Anyone out there have experience with the payroll portion of Epicor and any tips that can be given for someone moving from an outside payroll company to Epicor?
What roadblocks do you have with logging in at client workstations? A lot of other companies I have worked at this was the case regardless of Epicor or not so I’m just curious. When it comes to a timeclock, I would imagine there might be physical “punch style†clocks that could be integrated with Epicor via Service Connect or web services.

In my humble opinion, the payroll module out of Epicor just plains sucks (for lack of a better word).
I have no experience with HCM, but are you saying that you cannot use time clocks, or you cannot use MES terminals?
Open4 was a good HR and Payroll package, but I think Epicor bought out the company that created HCM. At one point Open4 did have a tie into Epicor. Not sure about now.

Sorry buddy, but I’d go back and yell, gently, at the moron who sold you that piece of %^&$*#.
Hopefully I’m wrong and you can use MES. Of course it being third party I would not be surprised if you had to create summary csv files to upload into HCM…but jeez so much for streamlining!

Manasa,
Thanks for the brutal honesty. That's what I'm trying to find out.
From what I've been told, there are no external time clocks that can be used with the payroll module. It's all through a swipe card on a workstation.
They already perform punch in and out for job collection if you are using MES. We will be making the exact same transition from the physical punch clock to using MES in the coming weeks. I don’t see that a huge adjustment for the users will need to be made, except that they punch into MES sooner than they do now and stop punching a manual clock. I’m very certain that through service connect or web services coding you could integrate a punch clock with Epicor yourself if it’s something you require.

Joshua,
The people who will be logging in will be on the shop floor and have always used time clocks to punch in. I'd like to keep it consistent so they're not having to face a world of change.
From my discussions with those at Epicor, there is no physical time clock that can be used. It's all through a workstation. Maybe it's the hesitation of change but I'm not sure how it will work.
I believe Open 4 still works with Epicor. I know it does for E9. I would call my CAM and “exchange” HCM for the Open 4 package that is complete with Payroll and HR (HCM is HR only). Look at your options for time clock that are new. You may be able to find something that is similar to what they are doing now but able to interface with Epicor.
