Perspectives 2009

I agree taht we should schedule a meet and greet next year. I'll be happy to help get it organized.

It was great to put faces with the names that I see on here on a regular basis solving everyone's problems (you knwo who you are). Makes one wonder how you have time to get any actual work done!

It was definitely a great learning experience for me, especially for customizations and BPM's. These are all things which we are just beginning to explore (we go live on 8.03.408 Jan. 1).

I would encourage anyone who is on the fence about going to definitely plan on making the trip next year. In my opinion, this is an event where you can get as much out of it as you are willing to put into it.

I see that the early registration deadline for Perspectives 2009 is a month earlier (June 1) than last year (July 1 or so). Funny because the conference itself will be 2 weeks later than last year. I was going to ask about this in the EUG-Vantage Leadership Conference call today but got cut off before I could.

My point was going to be how this earlier deadline might impact ability to attend. Given the business climate I am not sure I could dare ask at this time to attend. Let alone spend a grand (before EUG discount) now. We (like most places I am sure) are under pretty tight spending controls. Hopefully things will pick up later in the summer. But then, with the discount gone, the bar is even higher for justifying attending - especially if the economy does not show signs of improving.

So I was going to ask the group...
1. Does the earlier deadline hurt your chances of attending?
2. OR, Is the earlier deadline irrelevant because you likely can't attend anyway?
3. Is the expense of the location more of a barrier than the registration cost?

This may well be the first conference I will miss since 1998. Mega-Bummer.

BTW...not much to report from VLC. Epicor 9 is going pretty well. The road shows have info for Vantage 6.10 sites looking at Epicor 9. 8.03.408 now due mid-May due to previously unexpected release 407c being delayed. This will be last 407 before 408. As far as Perspectives they are shooting for 50% user presented sessions.

We just went through our second lay off and are now putting all hourly staff on 32 hour weeks.
It is 90% unlikely that anyone from our plant will be attending, regardless of the fee.
so, to answer 1 & 2, not really too relevant, 3. not more or less of a barrier, just that it is a cost and is therefore a barrier.
But things can change. Our business is driven by drilling, if oil picks up, if drilling picks up, then business will pick up for us.

Is it in Las Vegas again this year? Or Orlando?

Las Vegas - Nov 8-11
One nice thing about LV (despite screwing up the room commitments at Caesars for the organizers) is there are low cost rooms available nearby (like Gold Coast) and cheap food options. You can almost get by for the whole conference (room & food) on one night room only at Caesars. $50 per diem is doable at the price of a little inconvenience. But everyone here hears "Las Vegas" and thinks "company paid vacation" no matter how low the real cost.

I'm with you Rob. PAY to go to Vegas so they can tell us why we should all be writing checks & signing contracts to leap to v9 (and disrupt our businesses for 3/4 of a year in the way v8 implementation did)?

I don't think so!

Perhaps someone at Epicor will wake up between now and then and refocus it (using real world cases) on how to use what we have to run our business more effectively. (Not the sales spiel smoke and mirrors... REAL stuff that companies are doing and actually works without wading through months of bugs & SCRs to be resolved).

THAT I'd push to have at least one our people go to.

More v9?... It's a good thing it's going to be in a desert (as less will notice it's deserted).

Informational response only:
$360/yr for whole company. Perspectives discount can apply to multiple people under one membership.
___________

ALSO....I have been corrected about the early registration discount for Perspectives. The discount offered is a NEW super-saver discount for really early registration. The wordig on the email notice was not real clear about this. The regular early discount and deadline will still be in effect. I have always taken the EUG discount on top of the early discount but am not sure if that can be done with the super-saver early discount.

(adult or otherwise) let me know (directly, don't reply to all <grin>).

Hi Brian,

I'll be there Saturday afternoon through Wednesday. A few libations and
some shared war stories sounds great! I'd be happy to meet with any of
you fine folks who will be there as well. If you want to contact me
before hand!

I'm leaving now for the airport.

I've rented the Lord Caesar Suite on the 45th floor of the Augustus
tower. I will be hosting a party on Saturday night for all interested
Perspectives attendees including entertainment, beverages and
appetizers.

Well, not really. But I am going.

See you all there! :-)

Four of us are driving down this afternoon. We should definitely arrange a meeting as a group.

Perhaps drinks Sunday evening somewhere...anyone an expert on a good location?
