Well if the Perspectives people under reserved a block of rooms based on past attendance levels then there are plenty of alternatives close by. Nice thing about Las Vegas - lots of rooms. Some a LOT less than $149 a night. I got an email today from The Venetian announcing they've opened a new "suites" tower called The Venezia with over 1,000 new suites and a rate of $139 on selected weekdays. Unfortunately Mandalay Bay's new all-suite tower with 1,122 rooms won't open until Nov. We watch the hotel business pretty close because a side business here is a mirror defogging system ( www.clearmiror.com) that we sell to hotels (as well as for homes). A couple high roller suites at Caesars have them. Sorry about the shameless plug.

I did not have a problem with booking my flights. I checked the rates a
couple of weeks ago and the rate is still the same. But I am coming
from Pittsburgh. My luck USair is talking about pulling out of
Pittsburgh - they will do this before I leave.
But on another note - I asked the reservation clerk why to booked - he
said there are FOUR other conventions going on at that time!

Phew! Glad I reserved a room really early. I think part of the deal
may be the relatively good conference rates. The Palace Tower room I
booked for $189 is normally about $457 (their web site) on Saturday
nights. Not sure what the other rooms Sat. rack rate is but I'll bet a
lot higher than $149. They may be having second thoughts about holding
Sat. rooms a the lower rates. Or else maybe this conference is going to
be better attended than than last couple, that would be nice.
On a similar note - 2 weeks ago I checked air prices from Twin Cities -
it was around $243. I procrastinated and did not book until yesterday.
Up to $316 now and on seating chart there were only two seats to pick
from. Also list of flights was much smaller. Airlines are running
fewer flights and they are filling up earlier so book soon.
