I attended the session and found it quite helpful. It covered Object
Explorer, Script Editor, Sub Process Menus, Context Menu Maintenance,
User Defined tables, Picture Box control, Embedded Dashboard Panal
Wizard & Parent-Child UD tables. I don't recall any mention of a 3 day
seminar but one of the presenters said there will be a document covering
the "Embedded Dashboard Panal Wizard" on EpicWeb approximately November
15th. I took a look at the Development Tools Guide at the registration
counter and it looked pretty good. We will be obaining a copy for our
company.

Did anyone attend the advanced customization lab? I was told that a 3
day seminar was supposed to be rolled out after the conferance and I was
wondering if there is any feedback.

Subject: RE: [Vantage] Perspectives feedback
I
I thought Perspectives went very well. It was pretty well attended but
there were fewer Vantage people (it seemed) and many more Enterprise and
iScala folks than I had noticed last year. Many of the labs and session
topics were repetitive to last year but seemed to make more sense to me
this time around. Perhaps it just takes a couple tries for it to really
sink in for me. The best info (as usual) was from other users and there
seemed to be a lot of heads nodding in agreement about 8.03.400 being
both a performance and a bug reduction improvement over earlier 8.x
release and patch levels. The consensus opinion I was seeing amongst
people working on or planning migration from earlier versions was that
8.03.400 is fast enough (or not overly slow) and stable enough to be
safe to migrate to (for us fearful types).
I found the System Administration 1/2 day class on Sunday to be very
much worthwhile in firming up some conceptual understanding for 8.x.
This and several other admin and performance type sessions seem to have
benefited from a larger pool of experienced sites (mostly new sites, not
migrators) and Epicor personnel better understanding "real world"
issues. There was a session for migrating to 8.03.400 but the focus was
on doing this from earlier 8.x releases. One of the biggest irritations
I have is the lack of support and tools for migrating from 6.1. Tehre
was a little info here and there but the gist of it is still "hire an
Epicor consultant". On the other hand there is supposed to be some
resources on EpicWeb and I will admit I have not had time to browse them
since returning.
It was not so much Orlando as Disney as the location. In 2001
Perspectives was in Orlando but "outside the world". The trouble with
Disney is that it is a money sucking behemoth with a virtual monopoly.
Everything was very expensive....Disney owns or controls all
sales...from bottled water to sunglasses to restaurants. And
transportation outside "the world" is costly enough to make it not
worthwhile. At least at Caesars in Las Vegas there is competition
nearby. Especially in restaurant choices. All that said the Dolphin and
Swan hotels (for those who got in) are very nice hotels as long as "the
boss" is paying. The meeting rooms were typical conference center but a
little scattered around more than at Caesars. Maybe it was just being on
three different floors and our not being able to use escalators hunting
down elevators was a chore.
For me the whole thing was very much worth it and made me a lot more
comfortable about being closer to being able to migrate to 8.03.400 from
6.1.

I was unable to make it to Perspectives this year so was wondering if
anyone had any feedback of note related to Vantage. Also, how was
Orlando as a Perspectives location?
