Physical Inventories / Cycle counting in 9.05.701

Carol,

That is also what we do, use a purchased two-part tag. We're on 9.04.507A, but I don't think the process will be vastly different for 9.05.702 (which I'm testing now but haven't gotten to that part yet).

I made a new Report Style for PrintTag (this is what the Cycle Count Maintenance program uses for "Print Tags" after "Generate Tags" has run off the Actions menu). I print them only to the screen, and then I take the XML file that's created and open it in the Crystal Developer. From there I have a few more printing options, since these tags are actually printed on a (shock) dot-matrix non-networked printer (Epson LQ-950).

For a full physical inventory (which we have to take twice a year), it takes about 3 hours to print the 3000-odd tags. My controller and I make a night of it... there are some other half-year-end things we have to do that take some time, so we get those going, let the company buy us dinner, and then come back and get these done (on Saturday night). On Sunday the controller comes back in and separates the tags, and on Monday the fun really begins.

The tags we use are 2-part 5"x7", I can give you our supplier if you like. We've used them for 4 inventories so far, and everyone hates them LESS than they hated what we used before. I suppose that's progress.

Has anyone come up with a means of using tags other than the system assigned tags in 701? The cycle count/physical inventory process differs greatly between 8.03.409C and E9.05.701. Any tips / ideas for deleting the existing tags and creating our own?
Why would you want to do that?

Good Day Carol:

We 'generate' the tags but do not print them, then a simple BAQ can create count "Sheets" with many numbers per page.
You can sort by Bin# and if you import it into ACCESS, could even do a "page" command for each bin# change.

So if you are not hung up on having a tag to leave, it is much nicer.

Attached is my procedure, but if it does not come through, I pasted below some lines that have the file names.

Tag Codes E9-Create Count Records for first warehouse then "Start Count" for it. Repeat for each warehouse.
Use chart below to track is very easy to loose track -
Tag Header (ccHdr) status is shown on screen:
(Cycle Status) 0=Scheduled, 1=Tags generated
2=count started, 3= counts entered,
4=recount tags ( not used) 5=(not used) 6=completed

ccTag Status ( ccTag): 0=open 1= posted 2= Voided 3= Closed/Recount
(Tag Status)

ccDtl:PostStatus (ccDtl): 0= Not Posted 1= Adjustment Posted 2= No Adj Req 3 = Voided
(Post Status) 1= Inv Adjustments Made 2= No change -balanced within Tolerance 3= not posted removed

ccDtl:Month ( display as Cycle Period) : If same year then unique Cycle: 1,2,3,4,5 taken out in order
