Potential need for battery raw material pre processing requirement

Have a bit of an odd one which I think I know the solution to, but wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas.

We will potentially have a need to recharge or top up the charge of batteries in inventory before they are used in production, as they slowly discharge over time.

But need to be able to gauge this from the battery mfg date or receipt date so we can trigger a process or review of inventory.

I’ve thought of adding a UD field to the part lot and then lot tracking each delivery. The UD field number calculates a future date for recharge/topup based on a set number of days or weeks from the original mfg date. Then create an exception BAQ and report to send out weekly of all lots that are due for review in the next 1-2 weeks.

Thats the only thing I can think of utilising at this point, but would love to see if anyone else has any ideas.

Hello Adam,

I like your idea a lot.

Poor Suggestion

You may be able to skip the UD field and use another one of the Lot fields like Best Before Date or Expire Date. These fields are updatable more than once, so you may want to put a Change Log on them to record the number of recharges.

I also like your idea a lot, but be careful of using the Expire Date field… there is new functionality on that field and if it is NOT updated, the MRP process won’t show it as available for shipment (test first!).

Probably the Best Before Date or (in my not-very-humble opinion) a UD field would be a better option.

I’m going to go with Ernie here. You never know what Epicor might do, so a UD field is indeed a better idea.

… which was your idea in the first place @aseidel!

They key idea here is that Lot Tracking is the best functionality, and the actual process you use within there can be tested and validated. Good luck!
