Preventative Maintenance

Speaking from what I saw and heard at Perspectives from people and the live demonstration of the product.

1. Epicor is not trying to eliminate the IQS product, however they are developing their own product that is integrated fully into the Epicor Vantage product.

2. IQS is not underneath the PM that Epicor is developing.

3. I believe the PM will be an addon module that will cost additional $$ to license and maintain. No idea how that cost compares to IQS.

4. I don't believe there is anything online but I would suggest contacting your CAM to see if they can get you a copy of anything from Perspectives that was made public.

From a personal perspective, to me it makes sense for Epicor to create something of their own. They then retain the money that was going externally previously, and second the features are integrated fully with the rest of the E9 platform.

We looked at IQS and while it has some excellent features, however we did not want to run another application on the shop floor for users to manage. We didn't like that all the data was not flowing fully back and forth between the products, and there are some issues with its ability to support multi-company.

(On a side note we met with IQS reps at Perspectives and they blamed Epicor for the problems of not fully synching data back and forth - that certain methods and objects weren't available to do it, and Epicor reps said all the features were there to do it - so who knows).

So, if you don't need to commit to any product immediately, I would suggest waiting for the Epicor PM to be released with 9.05 and compare cost/features at that time and make a decision.

Hello Charles,

Yes, we are (finally) and yes, we're using Field Service. If you're
venturing in, welcome to the Vantage wilderness!

Btw, have you ever seen Deliverance, the old movie (with Burt Reynolds, Jon
Voight and Ned Beatty) about four businessmen friends who encounter disaster
in a summer weekend's river-canoeing trip, in large part because they have
no idea what they are getting themselves into. Rent it, this weekend...

I'm looking for a registry cleaner for Windows 2000 pro and XP pro.

I downloaded Registry Mechanic trial and did a scan, which found 200
problems on my desktop computer, but was scared to let it repair anything.

Has anyone found a good reliable registry cleaner? Anyone gotten bitten by
one?

Paul,

Look for RegCleaner. It is no longer freeware, but the version 4.3
was. What's more, I haven't been as impressed by the retail versions.
RegCleaner 4.3 has a good display of what gets started on
bootup/login - something that the newer versions don't seem to do, and
it also keeps a backup of all changes made. The download should be 540K.

Here's a link I found:

Does anybody use Vantage to document and track machinery maintenance and
also to set-up a preventive maintenance schedule? We currently have a
package we are putting into play but it is very time consuming and it
seems to be very limited and cumbersome in relations to preventive
scheduling.

We are in the same boat. We use different documents for tracking machine tool maintenance and calibrations and would like to tie it together under one package.

We were told early last year that Epicor may have been developing a preventative maintenance module. So I sent a message this morning to our Epicor sales rep. and asked if there is any update regarding a preventative maintenance module for Vantage or Epicor 9. I will be sure to post his response once it is received.

Preventative maintenance will be in 9.05. They showed it at Perspectives, looked to be pretty decent actually.

Does anyone use the 3rd party quality product from IQS? And if so, does anyone have/use the maintenance/calibration modules? I have looked at both of these and they look fairly good, but of course pricey and you have to purchase a core group of quality modules to get the maintenance/calibration modules to work.

We looked at this a year ago, because our maintenance folks use an old 3rd party product and refuse to migrate to vantage for purchasing. We did have this great idea of marrying vantage to the 3rd party maint using service connect so we bought the $15K packaging and it sits collecting dust today.

Is Epicor trying to eliminate the IQS product? Is the 9.05 prevent maint. the IQS product underneath? or something new? Is it an add on module for 9.05? will it cost to purchase or is it part of the software maint. upgrade?

Does someone know were I could find the Perspective Presentation on this prevent maint. functionality?

Hi Matt,

I'd like to know that, too. I was at Perspectives when they announced this for Epicor 9; I'm guessing that it will be only as robust as it can - without violating any agreement that Epicor has with IQS! It would be nice to know if it's an add-on or if it'll be included.

Bummer about your $15K investment in dust-collection. Hopefully there's some consolation in knowing that you're not the first or the last that this has happened to - most of us can definitely relate.

We're getting ready to deploy our IQS/AQM integration in the next month or so; we purchased the Core and all the optional modules. Our Quality Manager is pretty happy with what she's seen thus far on the test side with Equipment and Device Management. Let me know if you need any additional information, but I'm sure that there are others in this group that already have this in Production and can provide more insightful input. The Equipment and Device module seems pretty straightforward.

We use all these modules and would be glad to share our results and the
processes and the knowledge we collaborated with IQS to obtain, and
would recommend IQS and their consultants to anyone who would want to
utilize these modules.

They are one of the few that really are worth any monetary expense that
you would put forth to assist you in going into production.
