Hi,

Is anybody using Hawking Tech. PN7127P print servers?
How are they performing with Vantage?

Hawking slaps their name on all kinds of cheap OEM Asian made network
components. In some cases, they're identical with 3-Com branded
products. In others they're junky.

Flaky print servers can waste a lot of your time, and piss off your users
more quickly than most other components. I'd stick with a more reputable
brand, myself. If you're trying to minimize costs check out Axis print
servers. They're inexpensive and well supported. I've had good luck with
them for quite a few years now.

Wayne,

Thank you for the input.

Mike

Sorry, no experience with Zebras. I've hooked 'em up with HP & Ricoh
lasers, an HP plotter, various matrix printers, and some DeskJets. Just
about anything with a parallel port that doesn't demand bi-directional
communication is happy to work with them.

Also used their on the fly string substitution to get some Vantage forms to
print how I wanted them (# copies & paper selection) instead of how windoze
tried to dictate. Oh yeah... and they're pleasantly OS independent and
standards based.

We've used both Axis and HP Jetdirect print servers and both have
worked fine on the local network. The Axis print servers didn't
consistently work when they were based at a remote site and the
servers, controlling them, were local. HP Jetdirect's worked without
a hitch and we've never suffered a problem with them.
