Printing in vantage 6.1

Todd,

Excellent points. I will expand on #5. I typically use HP 4 as my
generic print driver. This should cover all workstations and terminal
servers. It's basic enough to cover all bases and yet it will still look
good when printing. I AVOID PCL drivers at all costs. These have caused
numerous problems with Windows Server 2003 print spooler and I end up
having to stop the spooler, delete the print files and then restart the
spooler - I'm sure these same rules will apply for XP...I've found that
if I need the extra functionality (i.e. duplexing, large capacity tray,
etc.) then I try to find the PS driver for that printer.

Hope this information helps out.

Thanks,

This has been an on-going issue for a couple years (or more). There are
a few things that might help but some people have never found a
solution. From support there has been a lot of three way finger pointing
at printer drivers and Crystal. Below is a repost of some things to try.
But don't get hopes up too much, they don't always do the trick.
-------------------------------
Things that have worked here:
1. Keep Mfgwrk61 (or whatever) on user PC cleaned out - Exit Vantage and
delete all files in there.
2. Apply all Crystal patches to user PC (see Epicor FTP site Crystal
folder or Business Objects web site)
3. Copy selected Crystal related .DLL files from Vantage server to
client (like crpe32.dll expecially)
(or....use distribution wizard to distribute ANY small report with .DLLs
included to the user PC)
4. Vague recollection about running some regocx routine on user PC
or uninstall/reinstall Progress & Vantage on Client PC
5. Try to use a generic a print driver for a printer a possible
6. In Crystal developer...print preview a report to a suspect printer
where issue has occured - then save the report....this can set that
printer within the report. Sometimes it is the developer's printer that
goofs the user's up.
7. Do the users have other software with built in report writer based on
Crystal? Some of the above will resolve but if not uninstall their
report writer and see of problem goes away. That would make it a smoking
gun.

Anyone ever had any issues when trying to print a crystal report in
vantage 6.1 and had their computer or computers freeze up and crash?

I have two or three computers that freeze up when our users try to
print a tracker.

Thanks,

James
