Printing Labels

See if this helps. I copied this from a PDF. I also have other instruction documents for ODBC setup I can send to you directly if you need them.

AnswerBook #: 7439MPS Product: Vantage
Date Added: 10/30/2006 Version:
Date Changed: 12/21/2006 Module: Installation
Summary:
8.0 ODBC Setup - DataDirect 4.20 32-Bit Progress SQL92 v10.0B
Details:
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: How to setup the ODBC Driver for MFGSYS version 8.0.
PROBLEM RESOLUTION: Below are steps to setup the DataDirect 4.20 32-Bit Progress SQL92
v10.0B Driver for Mfgsys version 8.0.
STEPS:
1) Using windows explorer, browse to your server\epicor\oe100b\netsetup folder.
2) Double click on the SETUP.EXE in the netsetup folder which will install the "OpenEdge 10.B
Shared Network Setup. For the working directory, you can point to the shared folder on the
server. (i.e. C:\epicor\mfgwrk80)
3) Create and open a new Text document at a workstation (i.e ODBC.TXT).
4) Copy and paste all of the text below into that new (ODBC.TXT) text doc.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\DataDirect 4.20 32-Bit Progress
SQL92 v10.0B]
"APILevel"="1"
"ConnectFunctions"="YYN"
"CPTimeout"="60"
"Driver"="\\\\servername\\epicor\\oe100b\\bin\\PGPRO1019.DLL"
"DriverODBCVer"="4.20"
"FileUsage"="0"
"Setup"="\\\\servername\\epicor\\oe100b\\bin\\PGPRO1019S.DLL"
"SQLLevel"="0"
"UsageCount"="1"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\ODBC Drivers]
"DataDirect 4.20 32-Bit Progress SQL92 v10.0B"="Installed"
5) Edit two lines of the text document to reflect your servers name. The two lines are: "Driver ="
and "Setup=". Change the \\Servername to your servers actual name. Save the changes.
6) Rename the ODBC.TXT doc to ODBC.REG. This will change the appearance of the file and
allow it to be added to the registry.
7) Double click on the ODBC.REG file which will automatically import the information into the
workstations registry.
Setup the ODBC DSN for the new DataDirect driver.
==========================================
8) Go to [Start] --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Data Sources
(ODBC)
9) Click on the [System] tab, then the [ADD] button.
10) Scroll down and locate the "DataDirect 4.20 32-Bit Progress SQL92 v10.0B" driver, hightlight
and click [FINISH].
11) Fill in the Properties window for the ODBC Progress OpenEdge Driver Setup.
- Data Source Name: OpenEdge10B (do not use spaces in the name)
- Description: OpenEdge 10B
- Host Name: <enter your servers name here>
- Port Number: 8050 (for the Live database) 8060 (for the Training database), 8070 (for test)
- Database Name: mfgsys
- User ID: sysprogress (or the name you have chosen and setup in your 6.x database.)
- Click on the Advanced tab and set the Default Isolation Level to Read Uncommited
12) Click on [Apply] and then press [Test Connect]
13) Fill in the password, click [OK]. You should get "Connection Established!". Click [OK]
USER NAME and PASSWORD Setup:
================================
NOTE If this is a new setup in that your database is either a new install or has never been setup
to use ODBC, you will need to add an administrative user and password to the database directly.
Follow the remaining steps below to setup user: "sysprogress" and a password of your choice.
14) On the server or your Admin workstation if you have one setup, make a copy of your
"SchemaChange" icon.
15) Rename the copied icon to "ODBC Setup".
16) Right mouse click the ODBC Setup icon and select "Properties".
17) On the ShortCut tab, Target line, change the last parameter on the line from: applydf.w to
_admin.p Save the changes and double click.
18) In the Progress Database Administration utility, select ADMIN --> SECURITY --> EDIT USER
LIST.
19) Click on [ADD], and fill in the following fields
- User ID: sysprogress
- User name: sysprogress
- Password: <this is your choice, do not forget what you entered>
20) Click [OK], and click [OK] again. Exit the Data Administration session.
21) You should now be able to go back and "Test Connect" your DSN with the User ID and
Password you just entered.
Note: if any problems with the registry entries, make sure you break it up into lines
"key" = "Value"

I've looked back over previous discussions about this, but still could use some advice on printing both the tags and labels out of the receiving system. I've modified both of them enough that they would be perfect, except I can't figure out how or where to designate the
size of the label and/or how to get it to print more than 1 tag/label per page. I was thinking it was in the printer settings, but maybe because I was just trying it on a couple of different inkjet printers, I was not having any success. It seems like it should be simple enough, but I am spinning my wheels, so any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Julie,
Sorry for the delay. The settings you are looking for are in the Details
layout.
Right click on the section title for Details a and choose Format Section.
Now click on the Details section, not one of the indented subsections. On
the right now click on the layout tab and play with those values. You will
be able to format it the way you want for virtually any sized paper and any
quantity per page.
Good luck,

Hi All

We want to start using shipping labels from epicor.

I designed the rpt file but now i need to define the number of labels to
print. By default i realised that its printing one label per line but that
doesnt work for me since i have a variable # f labels per line,
How can i define the number of labels to print.

Thanks
Ephraim

What is your max # of possible labels to print? Are we talking 10? 100?

If it's something relatively small, you can trick Crystal Reports and
make a few detail bands that are duplicated and use suppression
depending on our #labels you need.

I assume youre using crystal, I have successfully tied the number of
labels to a column in the RDD, in my case an user defined field that is
populated during the shipping process..

Ephraim,

Yeah, with 100 potential labels I'm at a loss. I think I've designed a
Crystal Report for up to 25 before.

Is it too much for the user to manually type in the copies needed in the
Windows Dialog box upon printing? Even if the # was
displayed/calculated somehow on the Pack Screen?

Useful links for the Yahoo!Groups Vantage Board are: ( Note: You must

Thats a possible option but the problem is that it automatically gives you

Also i want to be able to print number of boxes that will be impossible like
that.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Hi Ephraim,

You can do this by putting the label in a subreport.

In the main report group on the pack line
Create a sub-group on the pack line

Create a formula to hold all the shared variables for the fields that
you want on your label
e.g.
Formula: SharedVars
whileprintingrecords;
shared svnNumCopies := [whatever formula you need to determine the
number of labels you need];
shared svnPackNum := ShipDtl.PackNum;
shared svnPackLine := ShipDtl.PackLine;
shared svnPartNum := ShipDtl.PartNum;
Etc.

Put this formula in the group header and then suppress the group header

Create a subreport in the sub-group
Base the subreport on any table that will have more records than the
maximum number of labels you would ever need (I used the Part table)
Do not link the subreport to the main report
Create one formula for each of the shared variables
e.g.
Formula: NumCopies
whileprintingrecords;
shared numbervar svnNumCopies;

Formula: PackNum
Whileprintingrecords;
Shared numbervar svnPackNum;

Etc.

Create a running total (I called mine #RTCopy) that counts the PartNum
field (or whatever the unique index is for the table you have chosen)

Lay out your label in the subreport in the details section
In the details section expert you want to add the formula:
{#RTCopy} > {@numCopies}

Suppress all other sections in the subreport

Regards,
Linda
