Problem with 5.1 Progress Explorer

If you don't mind I'll take you up on the offer later this week or early
next week. I'd like to go as far as I can on my own so that I'm only asking
you the fun questions.

Thanks!

If you want to call, I can probably help you run through the list of issues.
I have a meeting at 2:30 today about two hours (Indiana time) so if you can,
call sooner rather then later.

Subject: [Vantage] Problem with 5.1 Progress Explorer

We've traveled the yellow brick road from Ver4 to 5.1. I have my 5.1
database all converted and running perfect -- as a single user. When
I try to setup Progress Explorer as per appendix A, I cannot get the
Vantage database to list under LocalHost - Database. Therefore I
cannot start Vantage 5.1 which means I can't access it on the
network. When I try (and I also tried to start it with ProControl)I
get the error "Could not connect to server for database
M:\Vantage\db\vanatage error 0 (1432)". I've erased the entire 5.1
partition and started over. I've reloaded Progress so many times I
know the codes by heart.

Is there anyone who can be my Wizard of OZ and end this journey?

We are on Vantage 5.0 and when we upgraded from 4.0 there was a problem with
just copying over the database. It seems we had to use procontrol to backup
the database from the machine that did the conversion and then use
procontrol to restore it to the actual Vantage server. There are also some
pro repair commands that will set the location of the database.

This might be the issue if you just copied the files over to your server.

Bill,

just a couple of thoughts (it's been a while since I upgraded, so my memory
is kind of fuzzy):

If you look at your error message below, Procontrol is trying to connect to
a database called vanatage... Did you spell vantage out correctly in your
path definition?

Another thing I would look at is the drive letter: M:\ Are you running
Procontrol on the server? If so is "M" the actual name of the physical
drive or a mapped drive letter?

HTH,

Paul

To clarify -- I copied the error message wrong -- the last element of
the file name is Vantage.
The error message is from a workstation and M: is a mapped drive.

Did you try it with the UNC path name instead of using the mapped drive?

Bill,

I am in the middle of upgrading to 5.10 also. Do you get an error message when you first open the Progress Explorer? Something like
"SNAP-IN FAILED TO INITIALIZE". I got that message and created a new console, it's working now. Just started to do the schema
changes. I'll let you know if I am actually able to install Vantage on a client with these settings. Thanks god we have a spare
server to practice on.
