Product Configuration

We also use it for boats. Our Bill of Material is huge and goes 9
levels deep with lots of rules buried deep in the configurator. One
thing you want to remember before you delete anything in the
configurator is to make sure you do not have a rule associated with
the part you are deleting. Other than that, it works great.

Hi,

Anyone is using Product Configuration? Can you tell me an esample or
a sample configuration part. We have it and never used it yet.

Is it a good tool to use?

Thank you,
I have been testing the product Configurator in the Epicor training
database(V6.1). I have created my own configured parts but I have also
used a couple of the Epicor supplied configured parts.

The Epicor supplied configured part numbers are CFG-CV,CFG-PD, CFG-PI,
ConfigExample, and Configurator Example.

It seems to be working. I have never used any other Product
Configuration system to compare it with.

Hi

We use the product configurator to configure rugged laptops and tablet PCs from the quote and order screens and it works really well.

There is a small bug relatng to the pricing, but it is work aroundable.

I have been working with product configurators of
various types for a few years now (with other ERP
systems) and the Epicor one is excellent.

All configurators do require a significant amount of
up front design work but you can achieve great results
depending on what it is you are trying to do.

We use it for boats, so our configured parts are large and complex.
Vantage does a good job with them and I really like their
configurator. There is a lot of up front work, but the end product
saves a lot of time and effort in entering orders or quotes and

Its use is for parts with lots of options. You can create customized

based on inputs selected. There is also smart string functionality
that we use to create the customized part description.

We use the product configurator extensively. We manufacture inner
packaging (cells and or partitions) and while we only have approximately
6 parts all our orders are made to order and or custom. It is true that
there is a lot of upfront work and we used consultants from Epicor to
get everything setup. In fact, we had a consultant here this past
winter to update some things.
