We are in the relatively early stages of using the Product
Configurator , our Sales folks would like the Configurator to not only
choose the proper model and base price of a part, let's say on line 1
of a Quote, but also to fill-in lines 2 thru 'whatever' with the
peripherals/spares we usually quote with the 'base' part ( chosen thru
the Configurator), all from running the Configurator only once.
I've tried to explain that the PC , thru the Quote/Opportunity , will
give only (1) base price, this could be a combined price,(base price
plus peripherals/spares). However, we like to quote each peripheral
with it's own Line Item.
Am I wrong in my understanding of the PC in this regard?

Bill
I can say from version 6.1 that your understanding of the configurator is
correct. It would tally up the options through its price calculator and give
you one price for the configured part. It would not create additional lines
to show the options.

If I understand you correctly then I think we do something similar. All
of our products are custom built and can include some 150 different
options. Some of these options have additional costs. Those items are
written to the PUB_PcInValue table. When we print quotes, order,
invoices we have a pricing subreport underneath each line item. This
subreport shows the additional cost items that are associated with that
line item.

We have a similar challenge, we would like to show the list of options that make up the end item shown on the sales order line. This list of items should then show up on the sales order as well as the order acknowledgment. This way the customer can see what he ordered and verify that it's correct. Unfortunately the PC is not made to do this, in fact it creates the MOM from the options selected only when we apply "Get Details" in a job.

We wish the PC were more flexible, without custom programming.

Oh well!

Ed,

You can have the report read the PCInValue Table for the specific quote
line and modify your forms to utilize this information.

Also (semi)Hidden inputs could be used as flags / suppress specific
details for options that are broken down.

Or have an text box which summaries the options chosen and include this
in the report.

Another alternative is to run get details then link to the QuoteMtl
table, set field rules can be used to store comments and options
selected.

Stephen Edginton

HI Ed.

We use the QuoteDtl.QuoteComment field to store all of our Application Info, then have this field as part of our QuoteForm Crystal Report (using SetRules), prints out under each line item.
We build a 'string' withh all 'app' info, it could include all Options chosen as well as Prices.
My 'Sales Guys' would like the PC to fill up subsequent Line Items with all Options and Prices, but the PC does not work that way. We'll use it to Engineer/Price our 'base' part, then 'available options' will have to be added 'line by line', in Quote/Opportunity.

Here is what our quote/order/invoice line item looks like. From
PcInValue table we pull the pricing which we show as a sub report and
then we show the custom configuration of the item. We actually have
over 150 configuration options but we only show what's necessary to the
customer.

I guess the graphics don't alway come through. I'll see if any
attachement will work.
