Progress...again

Ahhh... technicalities. ;-)

Thanks again, Ned.

Putting it in your mfgsys.pf file won't help you.

Exactly, thanks. so in PET I can set this. I was also thinking maybe
putting it in the mfgsys.pf file.

Thanks. I'll give this a whack in TEST.

Not totally sure how to run that in the SQuirrel, but I know if you are
using something like that Data Admin, then you would put it in as a startup
parameter, similar to the -Mm or the -Bt

I think you can put it into the default configuration of the database, and
put it in the General section under the "other server arguments"

It defaults to one MB, the equivalent of writing it out -SQLTempBuff 1024,
so you can put it in and have it running at -SQLTempBuff 4096 or something
else.

I'm writing a fairly complex query in SQuirreL. Not necessarily complex, but
a bunch of WHERE clauses to filter out records.

All of a sudden, good ol' Progress starts returning a strange error message
on this known-good query:

[DataDirect][OpenEdge JDBC Driver][OpenEdge] Internal error -20033 (see
dsmret.h) in SQL from subsystem DSM SERVICES function dsmRecordGet called
from sts_srtt_t:::scan_cursor on .SRTT_Temp_1 for .

select distinct("test_column") from testTable;

So, I Googled and found the exact issue described on Progress' website:
http://knowledgebase.progress.com/articles/Article/P175717

The resolution is: "Increase -SQLTempBuff parameter accordingly"

Ummm.. OK, but leave it to Progress to not tell you how to implement the
resolution.

Any Progress folks out there have a clue as to where I modify this setting?
If it helps, I'm on OpenEdge Release 10.1B0333.

TIA.

FWIW, this wouldn't happen in MSSQL! ;-)

You would add this parameter setting to your mfgsys.pf file.

This error indicates that you've run over the default buffer setting which is around 1M.
Is there any way you could trim down the data set returned in your query - your server would appreciate it. :)

Calvin, thanks!

What I've found is that my ORDER BY clause is the culprit. It seems if I
drop it, it doesn't consume as much space and that error doesn't return.
I'm just querying JobHead and only returning a max of 5000~ records. I have
about 12 WHERE(AND/OR) clauses filtering out records not necessary in our
historical analysis. And it's not even hitting my server very hard and
records are returned in a second or less.

Thanks again.
