Progress DOS SILENT quirk

what about + '&' + string(TranID)

Just another shot in the dark.

Hi Charles,

I'm guessing it simply shells it out.

Tried trimming down the url, still nothing after the &

ASSIGN OutStr = '"V:\mfgsys61\ud\iexplore.lnk"
http://warrior/tage.asp?NxtLbrSeq=' + string(NextLaborDtlSeq) +
'&TranId=' + NonConf .

Resultant address was

http://warrior/tage.asp?NxtLbrSeq=33596

Hey Steve,

I'm assuming the DOS SILENT VALUE function is supposed to emulate what
you
type at the dos prompt.

I think you might be exceeding the 127 keystroke buffer ! That would
truncate your string right in front of the TranID variable.

Hi Charles,

Thanks! Not sure why but you inspired me to paste this into a DOS
window.
It doesn't work there with an & either, it's been awhile but if memory
serves DOS interprets a & as a system command separator.

For kicks I placed this in a variable as below, and tried some
combinations
of surrounding with double quotes, but for some reason the application
doesn't even fire when I do that.

For now I've "faked" it by parsing the fields out in the asp.

Take care,

Steve

Steve,

Try building the entire string and assigning it to a variable before
putting
it in the DOS Silent function.

strparams = "V:\mfgsys61\ud\iexplore.lnk"
strparams = strparams +
string(NextLaborDtlSeq) + "&TranId=" & NonConf

DOS SILENT VALUE(strparams)

or another thing to look at is using the API Call directly - goto to the
following website
http://www.global-shared.com/win32/runprogram/execwait?s=api+call
for an example.

Hi Charles,

Thanks for the idea; I tried the following

DOS SILENT VALUE('"V:\mfgsys61\ud\iexplore.lnk"
http://warrior/vantage/aspsdev/NonConfToVantage.asp?NxtLbrSeq=' +
string(NextLaborDtlSeq) + '%26TranId=' + NonConf ).

And it came through as a %26,

http://warrior/vantage/aspsdev/NonConfToVantage.asp?NxtLbrSeq=33547%26Tr
anId=7522

but it didn't recognize the %26 as an & with a
request.querystring("TranId"). Interestingly enough when I do a
request.querystring("NxtLbrSeq") with the %26 it returns a value of "
33547&TranId=7522" translating the %26 to an &.

Go figure. I'm using ie 6.0. Firefox delivers identical result.

Take care,

Steve

I ran into a similar problem creating name/value pairs being passed in

There were &'s in the data that I was pulling out of a database and it
kept
thinking there more parameters than there actually was.

Hi,

I'm using the dos silent progress call as follows.

DOS SILENT VALUE('"V:\mfgsys61\ud\iexplore.lnk"
http://warrior/vantage/aspsdev/NonConfToVantage.asp?NxtLbrSeq=' +
string(NextLaborDtlSeq) + '_' + NonConf ).

This results in an IE Explorer session kicking up and loading the
address

http://warrior/vantage/aspsdev/NonConfToVantage.asp?NxtLbrSeq=33541_7519

I'd like to pass another parameter, and tried using

DOS SILENT VALUE('"V:\mfgsys61\ud\iexplore.lnk"
http://warrior/vantage/aspsdev/NonConfToVantage.asp?NxtLbrSeq=' +
string(NextLaborDtlSeq) + '&TranId=' + NonConf ).

This results in the following address

http://warrior/vantage/aspsdev/NonConfToVantage.asp?NxtLbrSeq=33541

Everything after the & disappears; it should be

http://warrior/vantage/aspsdev/NonConfToVantage.asp?NxtLbrSeq=33541&Tran
Id=7519

Any Ideas where this is being trimmed? I've tried offsetting with ""'s
and a few other things.

Thanks and take care,

Steve

Hey Steve,

I'm assuming the DOS SILENT VALUE function is supposed to emulate what you
type at the dos prompt.

I think you might be exceeding the 127 keystroke buffer ! That would
truncate your string right in front of the TranID variable.

Hi Charles,

Thanks! Not sure why but you inspired me to paste this into a DOS window.
It doesn't work there with an & either, it's been awhile but if memory
serves DOS interprets a & as a system command separator.

For kicks I placed this in a variable as below, and tried some combinations
of surrounding with double quotes, but for some reason the application
doesn't even fire when I do that.

For now I've "faked" it by parsing the fields out in the asp.

Take care,

Steve

Steve,

Try building the entire string and assigning it to a variable before putting
it in the DOS Silent function.

strparams = "V:\mfgsys61\ud\iexplore.lnk"
strparams = strparams +
string(NextLaborDtlSeq) + "&TranId=" & NonConf

DOS SILENT VALUE(strparams)

or another thing to look at is using the API Call directly - goto to the
following website
http://www.global-shared.com/win32/runprogram/execwait?s=api+call
for an example.

Hi Charles,

Thanks for the idea; I tried the following

DOS SILENT VALUE('"V:\mfgsys61\ud\iexplore.lnk"
http://warrior/vantage/aspsdev/NonConfToVantage.asp?NxtLbrSeq=' +
string(NextLaborDtlSeq) + '%26TranId=' + NonConf ).

And it came through as a %26,

http://warrior/vantage/aspsdev/NonConfToVantage.asp?NxtLbrSeq=33547%26Tr
anId=7522

but it didn't recognize the %26 as an & with a
request.querystring("TranId"). Interestingly enough when I do a
request.querystring("NxtLbrSeq") with the %26 it returns a value of "
33547&TranId=7522" translating the %26 to an &.

Go figure. I'm using ie 6.0. Firefox delivers identical result.

Take care,

Steve

Steve,

Try replacing the & with a %26 and see what happens.

If your enter the complete string manually in the DOS Silent function
does
it work the way you want it to ?

I ran into a similar problem creating name/value pairs being passed in
the
URL.
There were &'s in the data that I was pulling out of a database and it
kept
thinking there more parameters than there actually was.

Hi Charles,

I'm guessing it simply shells it out.

Tried trimming down the url, still nothing after the &

ASSIGN OutStr = '"V:\mfgsys61\ud\iexplore.lnk"
http://warrior/tage.asp?NxtLbrSeq=' + string(NextLaborDtlSeq) +
'&TranId=' + NonConf .

Resultant address was

http://warrior/tage.asp?NxtLbrSeq=33596
