Progress Patch (an old one - 9.0B44)

Thank you, It went exactly as described in your 1st message and I had
already procopied Live to Test, while I was shutting down the DBs, to serve
as my backup. After 25 years in this business that's an automatic SOP for
me.

Oops, almost forgot standard CYA disclaimer:

Make sure you've got a backup! (at least of your Vantage data)

Vantage support advised I apply Progress patch 9.0B44 for a printer issue I
am having. I downloaded it and expected it to maybe have a readme file but
there was none and the .exe launches directly into the install.

Anyone know how long the install takes, roughly?
Any gotchas like database reorg or mainenance stuff?
Is this a pretty straightforward run the exe and turn the DB back on type of
process?

I have not applied a DB patch before so don't know what to expect. I have
commitments later tonight and can postpone this if it is really complicated
or prone to messing anything up.

Thanks much,

The way you install it is by unzipping the patch to a temporary directory,
then by dragging the unzipped files and folders into the DLCSRV directory.

However, if your current progress patch is greater then 9.0b44, I would
strongly recommend verifying with support that you are only overwriting the
files necessary (making backups of the files you overwrite). I thought
progress patches came with a readme.pat... oh well.

Yup. Real easy. Just shutdown the databases and the Admin Service, and
run the patch .EXE file at the server. It should find the correct Progress
location, but make sure it's going into the correct directory, esp if you
have multiple versions of Progress installed. Shouldn't take more than a
minute or so. It will probably want to reboot the server. I always like
to run a defrag (time permitting) after mass updates.
