There is a document called "Performance TuningGuideProgress_803405.
These are from page 16.
-B "# of Blocks in DB Buffer" The higher the better.
-spin "SpinLock Retries" 50,000 or 100,000
-bibufs 25 This parameter aids the Before Image Writer (BIW). The BIW
continually writes before-image buffers to disk, making the buffers
available to other client and server processes.
Apw "# APW's to Start" 6 Asynchronous page writers are background
processes whose job is
to write updated database blocks to disk as needed so that database
servers do not have to take the time to do these database
writes. This frees the db servers to do AppServer agent work.
-L "# Lock Table Entries" Multiples of 8192 Defines the number of record
locks any process can use. You
should never need to set this value higher than the default.

Option 5 shows a bunch of statistics but what do all these mean?

I believe Charlie is saying that he is on a Progresss database and when
he
uses the PROMON utility(according to the Sys Admin book it will monitor
database status and activity), he wants to know what the option 5 in
that
menu does. Option 5 merely says "activity". Again the Sys Admin book
simply
says that option 5 "displays a summary of database performance"
