the line.

Subject: [Vantage] Promoting and improving Vantage

Hi everyone-

In response to some of the comments recently about Al DeWitt's
invitation to join the EUG, I'd like to jump in with a few comments:

1. My philosophy is that my company has spent hundreds of
thousands of dollars and we rely on Vantage to run our company.
Therefore, the ongoing viability and success of the product is important
to us - we are definitely interested in it's success.
2. Vantage is a mid market product, with a mid market price
tag, and there are certainly areas of improvement both in the product
and Epicor's service. All of our companies can improve our products and
services. If Vantage were perfect, we'd be paying 10 times as much and
wouldn't have anything to complain about!!!
3. I think there are some great options for Vantage users. The
Yahoo! group should be independant from Epicor and it should be free, so
that the maximum number of people can join and feel good about it. I
admire and thank all of you that provide so much value to each other. I
think the User4User conference, and other independant user groups are
also great for the users. The EUG is another avenue, and while the
'drawback' might be that the EUG has a formal relationship with Epicor,
I have to say that the EUG is fierce about staying independant from
Epicor, and the EUG is the only place where users can have additional
input on enhancements and development of the product. It's typical for
a software company to identify one 'sanctioned' user group so they don't
have to deal with several independant groups.

It isn't necessary for any Vantage user to 'choose' between these
options. Users can decide on their own how much involvement they'd like
to have with this product, and their amount of involvement will probably
be directly proportionate to what benefits they receive. I guess I'd
just ask everyone to remain positive, and not look at the EUG as
'adversarial' to any user's interests. People have various opinions,
and there are always those who choose to be negative. I choose to be
positive and do my best to change the situation, rather than sitting
back, not getting involved, and complaining. If you don't like what the
EUG is doing for you, contact me, I'm your representitive on the EUG.

Finally, I'd encourage any and all users to attend Perspectives. On
Sunday, we'll spend the day evaluating enhancement requests, and
forwarding our recommendations. The rest of the days will be spent in
some 'dog and pony show' presentations, but there will also be some good
'meat and potato' sessions on how to use the product. This is also the
one place to meet the most users , and network, ask pointed questions,
and generally advocate for your interests. Yes, it's Epicor's
opportunity to showcase it's products, and it's glitzy, as it should be.
If your company can afford it, lighten up, come to Perspectives, and be
part of the solution, not part of the problem. Like Lee Iaccoca said:
"Either lead, follow, or get out of the way".

And don't forget, there's a meeting of the Yahoo! group at 5:30 on
Tuesday......see you there!

Jeff,
Thats all well and good about options. But this list does have
some guidelines of conduct. Al's posting was out of line with those
guidelines. IE a solicitaion for a "pay service" non profit or
not. The moderators were approached several months ago on the topic
and at that time it was put to rest, it shouldn't have come up
again. When this group discussed an inviation to the Vista users the
discussion was premised on going through that groups moderators and
RESPECTING the autonomy of their group. If I recall their moderator
was a PARTICIPANT of the discussion.
Al's posting did not incorporate any of those courtesies.
Obviously, users can choose one or both groups, or start their own.
Obviously, Shirley (and Todd), are pretty agravated about this. We
approved Al for this list out of courtesy to the EUG, assuming our
guidelines would be respected.
I'm going to make this perfectly clear there will be no more
EUG messages posted to this list without vetting by the moderators.
