Purchasing Suggestions for Non-stock Parts

Tim,

That it! Thanks for the help.
Now I've just have to get engineering to REMEMBER to schedule the jobs.

Rob.

Rob,

PO suggestions will not show up until the job is scheduled. You can engineer

and schedule the job without releasing it and they will appear. This was a

change made between 3.00 and 5.00.

If you are running MRP, suggestions for non-stock materials (Purchase

Direct) will not show up until the job is firmed and scheduled. Stock

material suggestions will be generated for unfirm jobs.

We upgraded from ver 3 to 5.00.329 about a month ago. Since then our
Purchasing Manager has been complaining that his purchasing suggestion has
not been showing everything. Unfortunately I have not had the time to look
into this and am hoping the group can help me out.

According to our Purchasing Manager:
* Non-stock items on jobs are not showing up in purchasing suggestions until
the job is released.
* These items also do not show on the time-phase until the job is released.
* Stock items will show on purchasing suggestions when the job is marked
engineered.
This is causing problems since the non-stock items must be ordered and
received before the job can be worked on (released to the shop).
He states that these items used to show up when added to the job under
version 3 so he had time to order them.

Can anyone confirm that this is the way the system works? Or are we missing
something?
If this is how it is suppose to work, how are others handling notifying
purchasing to order non-stock items before a job is release to the shop?
