Purged Warnings?

Todd:

We have our shop warnings set to two weeks and it never takes longer than
about 3 minutes to expire quotes and purge warnings - and we have quite a
few warnings activated. I just explained that Vantage is doing
"housekeeping" , and the first person to log on gets the broom.

One suggestion, though, we have several Data Collection stations that we
don't turn off at night, the only time I turn them off is over long holiday
weekends. That way, Data Collection still functions, purging gets taken
care of by an office user (usually the QC guy is the first one here), and
all is right with the world. More or less.

Ok, back to the test conversion.

One of the first people into the offfice this morning had a message when he
started Vantage that said it was "purging warnings, please wait". Nobody
here has ever seen this before. As far as I know we have not been using
warnings or alerts. I think one warning is still checked to send an alert
(efficiency over limit) and one supervisor is in one alert group but none of
this is related to the person who got the message.

Any ideas what this purging warnings message is about?

If this person has security rights to Data Collection, than it may be
related to the 'Weeks to Keep Shop Warnings' which is set in Company
Configuration / Data Collection Configuration.

(This is just a guess because I have never seen this before and we don't use
whop warnings)

You may be on to something. This person does have access to Data Collection
and our weeks to keep warnings is set to 60. We went live in Sept of 2000
which is probably 70 or so weeks ago. The message may have been occuring
for awhile and he was the first to let me know.
Thanks,
-Todd

Todd,

We use only 1 or 2 warnings and from time-to-time we also get this little informational message. I believe that it only gives this message to security admins.

Todd,

You can find and clear the shop warnings created in DC or labor entry in the
shop tracker - warning tab. Any warnings will be listed here and kept for
the specified amount of time or until someone goes in and clears them.
Vantage will look for them to clear when the first person logs in every day.
Hope this helps...

I can't see how to clear them on the Warnings tab, just "move to history"
which only gets them off the screen. Sicne we are not really using warnings
(yet) I am going to set the weeks to keep to be 1 for a week and then set it
back to 60 and worry about it next year. This will keep the users from
seeing the message for awhile. I will also clear the warnings that are now
active which are being ignored so perhaps no new warnings will be generated
uintil we are ready to use them.
Thanks for the info.

I would tell the users not to worry about the message - it is just a vantage
function. Vantage will also be expiring quotes at the same time so they
might see this message as well. I move the warnings to history, but since I
am seldom the first one here, I am not sure if this stops the purging
message or not. The warnings can be helpful for the foreman/planning
people - we use "over quantity" "rework reported" "excessive scrap". We
would like to see an "under quantity" but that is only available with DC.

This is normal. I think whoever is the first to log in each day, gets
stuck running the purge routine. The warnings are generated from data
collection and labor entry. I always get it each time logging into our
test DB, since it may go for days at a time unused. 60 weeks is probably a
bunch longer that you want to keep the warnings - might speed up the purge
process if you knock it down to 2 or 4 weeks (in system config / data
collection.)

-Wayne Cox
You are right about the purge process needing speeding up. I jumped in and
set it to one week and the first person to login in after the change (My
boss the VP-Finance!) could not log in. ALSO, nobody could use Data
Collection. The whole plant was locked out because the warnings file was
locked by my boss. We waited 15 minutes before realizing the shop was
frozen. Fortunately my backup, a Sys Admin level person, was logged in
already and I could use her PC to change back to 60 weeks and this freed my
boss and unlocked all the DC PCs.

So some weekend I am going to come in and set it to keep 50 weeks, then
login (somewhere else) to start the purge and see how long it runs. Then 40,
30,20, and 10 weeks until I get it down to a lower retention period so
purging is fairly fast. Having the purge process lock up the whole plant
from doing clock-in/out is worrisome so I want it to run really fast or not
at all.

Thanks for all the iedas on this,
-Todd
