Quantity Only Won't Backflush Materials

I am trying to move all our operations to Quantity Only as it’s impossible to realistically track time for all employees across jobs, resulting in large mfg variances.

What i’m seeing is the Labor Entry Method “Quantity Only” does not backflush materials, even though all materials are set to “Backflush” at the PartPlant level. We are using “Start Activity” - “End Activity” on the MES to report on jobs, which other threads suggested doing as opposed to “Report Quantity” on MES.

When i use our existing part details in a job where it’s “Time and Quantity”, we start by seeing that Backflush and EnableBackflush are checked off (not sure what the 3rd backflush one is for).

Then in the job i change Operation 10 to Quantity Only and it removes the Backflush checkbox but keeps the EnableBackflush checkbox. Note that i only changed Op 10 but it removed the Backflush from all materials even those tied to Op 20

Once i check off “Engineered”, nothing changes, once i check off “Released” nothing changes. Backflush remains unchecked and EnableBackFlush remains checked

Once i “Start Activity” in the MES on Op 10 the “EnableBackFlush” now shows unchecked for materials assigning to Op 10, i have not yet ended Op 10 or reported Qty at this point.

After Ending Op 10 and reporting qty, as soon as i clock into Op 20 the same thing happens to those materials. End Activity and report qty, open the job in Job Closing and nothing has been issued. Planning team must select “Backflush” from this screen in order to issue materials.

Now that i’ve taken you through my testing/investigation steps, am i missing something here or is this a feature of Quantity Only that materials do not backflush unless manually told to do so at the very end of a job?

Are you absolutely sure there are no BPMs or anything else that could be impacting this, we are Quantity Only across all operations & jobs and have no issues with backflushing material.

I guess i’ll have to dig deeper but we have never used Quantity Only. All our revisions were on Time and Quantity and we have never had issues with that. Only as soon as i changed to Qty Only does this problem arise.
