Jasper,
You will need an operation but you can set a BOM for the finished good that
requires the operation at 0 cost and 0 time. Then you can use the Kanban
Receipts to create the job, backflush, issue and receive, and close the job.
Leaving you with the quantity of finished goods (separate part number) and
using up the raw material.
It's slick and works great for just what you are asking.
I am not sure when Kanban came in, but I am guessing 6.0.
I hope this helps.

Subject: [Vantage] Raw Material to finish good without any operations
I know this is a stretch but is it possible to have a job that takes a raw
material and by virtue of issuing material to it, turn it into the finish
part? If we have a job that has no operations but has a raw material
requirement, can we issue material to it and then manually complete or close
the job and end up with a finished good?
We have a raw material we buy for certain top assemblies but we also
directly sell that same raw material as a different part number to our
customers. We buy it as one part number and we sell it as another part
number. We DO NOT want the customer to know the part number we buy it as.
Using substitute parts will show the wrong part number on the shipper and
invoices. We can make a job with a single operation to convert a certain
quantity from one part number to the other BUT we are trying to find a way
to do this without having to do any labor entry. Is it possible to this?
Thanks,
Jasper
