Just a quick reminder that one can easily start a new thread from an old/closed thread. Go ahead and reply, but click on the reply icon in the upper left-hand corner and choose “+ Reply as linked topic”. It automatically adds a link to the original post but allows you to start a connected thread.
It’s how I created this post instead of necroposting the original.
I would argue that it is not all relevant. Generally, these posts are branches off the original post. For example, it’s the same problem but the software has changed and there are new problems that aren’t related to the OP. Trying to find this in search is more difficult. Scrolling is longer, so to find the pertinent post with 300 replies takes significantly longer than one with 30.
BTW, these guidelines go waaaaay back to the days before online forums. A quick search of necroposting will give you the history behind it, along with those who ask why are people so concerned with it.
IMO, the necro prefix has served it’s dramatic purpose and should be replaced with a term conveying the meaningful distinction between low-value bumps and high-value bumps.
