Remote Vantage users

8.03.408B SQL

I even VPN in from my home office over a DSL connection and have no
problems. IMO, they did a great job tuning the client. Never used 6.1
in multiple locations, so I cannot provide a comparison.

They only time when I see slowness is when I'm running a report and the
XML being delivered to Crystal Reports is 1MB+ in size (rare).

Which version of Vantage are you using? We had to use terminal server
for Vantage 6.1 due to performance at remote locations (possibly just
due to our network setup), but are upgrading to 9.05 and have not tested
yet.

Brian.

Joel, we have 4 locations running Vantage all using the std Vantage
client. It's a very thin client by design and runs great.

We are going to have 3 facilities running Vantage. I currently have our
shipping department running terminal server with Vantage in separate
facility. Anyone have any options on running Vantage remotely. Citrix,
Terminal Server, etc...

We use a product called 2X. Whereas TS gives access to the desktop, 2X gives admin the ability to limit users' to specific apps like Citrix... only 2X is much cheaper than Citrix.

For more info: http://www.2x.com/

My $.02.. I too implemented 2X for local and remote thin client support. Much cheaper than Citrix and worked very well in publishing Vantage 8 as an application. I didn't want to publish a complete desktop to our users.
If you have a Win 2008 terminal server I understand you can publish applications but have not tried that yet.

I'm curious, how well does 2X work with something like a mobile scanner which
typically run Terminal Service?

That is the only area we don't use 2X... haven't tried. We use TS on all handheld devices, (i.e. barcode scanners).
