Remote Viewer Software

I have started using gotomypc which is very nice, secure and works nicely
through ms proxy 2.0 without change - but not cheap (~$20 / month)

Back to the Data Collection PC's again.
I have a remote viewing software called Tridia VNC
Well it works fine on my NT4 machines but my new DELL machine gets a
error when I try to install the software
Thus I have remote viewing capabilities running on the PC's but no
machine that can view them!
When I contacted Tridia, they tell me I need to upgrade to the PRO
Version because the version I have is not longer made!

Anyone using any other remote viewing software?
I am looking at Dameware Utilities and its great but I was hoping for
something more along the lines of " FREE "

Thanks

James,

Just download VNC Viewer from:

http://www.realvnc.com

It is the same thing as what Trida VNC sells you just without all of
their proprietary features (i.e. Trida VNC uses the base source code
from here and straps on a few extras so they can sell it). And it is Free.

Speed isn't a problem. DSL on both ends. I installed realvnc on my proxy
server and can connect to it just fine. I installed it on my workstation
behind the proxy. I followed all of the procedures in the document "HOWTO:
Using WinVNC behind MS Proxy 2.0" NO JOY. Can't connect. It sees it but
refuses the connection. I have the proxy set up to use window 3 and my
workstation to use window 5.

If you are trying to connect via dialup instead of your LAN, you may
want to use TightVNC (www.tightvnc.org). By using the Tight Encoder,
you can get acceptable performance even with slower modem access.

Bob,

Not sure if this is what you need but...

Have you installed VNC as a service or just loading like a program.
I have seen this "problem" on my server when VNC is loaded like a program and no user is logged in.
VNC will refuse to connect because my screen saver is on and the workstation is "locked"

If VNC is installed as a service this supposedly allows access to locked servers.

Hope this helps

Rich

Sorry Bob,

"VNC will refuse to connect because my screen saver is on and the
workstation is locked"

What I meant to say was the "server" was locked.

In my case the NT Server was locked via the screen saver.
VNC was just loaded as a program and not as a service.
Consequently no logins were possible. (It says this somewhere in the
documentation)
Since NT seems to use what looks like the standard login screen when the
system is locked, I guess VNC is more or less disabled until a user unlocks
the server.
- or -
Run VNC as a service and avoid this problem.

At Weaver industries we run VNC as a service on the server. VNC can
send a Ctrl-Alt-Del to initialte a login sessiion.
