Report Builder -- ParentCustomer Field

It does validate the parent (never tried that screen before) but the name
issue remains.

Caution - Just because the field is filled in might not mean a real record
exists in the database. Does the field validate against the database and
prevent deletion of the parent because of the reference? I don't know.
Hence my suggestion to link to an alias customer table. You would also want
to get the "Name" from the real parent record. Just an additional thought.

Have a calculated field that says IIF(Customer.ParentCustNum =
?,Customer.Custnum,Customer.ParentCustNum) and group on that field. This
would (for the purpose of the report anyway) treat customers with no parent
as though they were their own parent.

Link to Customer then left link the ParentCustNum to a second Customer table
using an alias (CustomerPar ?). Be sure to link to CustNum field not CustID
(did that once, oops).

Create a function field - (GroupCust perhaps ?):
GroupCust = IIF(CustomerPar.CustNum <> ?,CustomerPar.CustID,Customer.CustID)

Sort and Group on GroupCust which will be the parent (if any) or the actual
customer if no parent.

We don't use parent customer (yet) but this ought to work.
