I don't know of a way to clean the expression up.
A different option would be to create two aggregate fields, one for the
minimum date the report uses and one for the maximum date the report uses
and use those as the start and end date of the report. The major problem
with that is if there are dates that your filter encompasses that do not
have any data, the entire date range will not show up so it could be very
misleading, it depends on what you are trying to show.
