Report Builder replacement

I think the problem is also that Ver 7's front end is written in C.Net??? I noticed Epicor has been advertising on Monster.com for C.Net programmers. If that's the case then it would make sense that Report Builder isn't going to run as easily. I would also think that they wouldn't use Crystal with ODBC. I think they would use Crystal with the Progress Open Edge Product. I think that's how they are supposed to be communicating between .Net and Progress. I may be very wrong about this. Anyone signed up and received the 7.0 beta yet? The answer would be in the Progress Lic Codes.

I'm not up on the latest so I have a couple questions:

1) When is RB no longer supported? Version 7?

2) What is the best way to replace it? Some say Crystal, but my memory is
that CR only has very limited fields that are available to it and also that
it is a hassle to place individual reports on the Vantage menu.

Any comments, plans, etc.?

TIA

There was quite a discussion on this in the group around the time/end of
the last users conference. As I understand it, (correct me if I miss).
The lean is going to be to phase out report builder but that existing
reports will continue to be run. Progress will stop supporting RB
eventually. Crystal Reports through ODBC will be the report generator
of choice. From talking to Epicor representatives this is not an Epicor
driven decision but a Progress driven choice. (Progress apparently
wants to focus on the engine mainly and not the wheels). Epicor has
said to me that they are attempting to mitigate the situation by giving
us the tools to: Add crystal reports to the menu. (There seems to be an
approach out there now. RE:[Vantage] Compiled Crystal Reports 8.5 Sent
1/16/2004 by Jasper Recto) and to add Crystal reports to VB buttons. A
number of users are using another RB like engine whose name escapes me.
The bottom line is that RB's fully functional days are numbered. What
that number is exactly is anybodies guess.
