Maybe the PC has a hosts file entry for the server you're trying to connect
to that conflicts with its current IP address? If so, just delete that
line or the whole hosts file. That can be a problem if a Vantage client
install was run in the past with the "static IP" option.

My PC where I do Report Builder is down (disk circuit card swapped to CEO's
failed drive) so I am trying to do RB from another PC. I did the normal
install (Vantage and Progress Client) but can not connect to DB. RB just
freezes for a long time then reports it can not connect to the database. I
am trying to recall if on my PC there was a "Services" file entry for a port
number for RB. All I see there is Vantage on 2900. Is there supposed to be
one for Report Builder? If so what is the spelling of the service name and
the usual port number for it?

Thanks,

Todd,
I do not have a separate entry for RB. just the normal 2900/tcp entry for
Vantage.
Be sure to hit enter after putting in the entry. IT WILL NOT WORK if you
don't hit enter.
I have finally learned that one.

Todd,

Once you get the error does it allow you to click on the "OK" button? This should then bring up a screen that allows you to manually set where RB should be looking for the database.

Also, before you open up a report you should be able to click on "Report" and there is an option for database connections.

None of my services files are referencing a particular port for RB at all.

Thanks, yes I tried that. I don't think there is a seperate services entry
for RB but could not verify this since the only machine with it was down. I
went to another PC and installed RB and it works fine so I got what needed
doing for now done. Something else is wrong. I've seen this 1432 error
before and when I get back on my own PC I will search the old messages.

I think that I received this error also when I upgraded us to 5.1. I believe I ended up just reinstalling RB on the workstation and it worked after that.
