Report Builder - Vantage 6.1

The Original Question was: (see message # 44078)

Has anyone had this problem?

One of my users is unable to run a custom linked report builder report
on a particular machine (WinXP Pro SP2)If I log on as administrator
(Windows) and the user logs on to vantage - The report runs just fine.
But if the user logs on (windows) I get the following error

Unable to connect to database. Database error is:
Report Builder has detected that the SQL engine has shut down due to a
database error. Please save your report, exit and restart Report
Builder.

I had the user log on an Identical Machine except (Windows XPPro SP1)
and the report ran fine. It seems like some sort of permissions
problem
on that machine. I wonder if it has anything to due with SP2.
Any thoughts anyone?

Try disabling the Windows Firewall and see if it works.

Another suggestion is to make sure the user has local rights to the Temp Directory or Vantage Folder where the report is being created. Typically when I have these issues this is the case.

How are the permissions for "write" setup on the work folder? Such as c:\epicor\mfgwrk61 on that PC? Try deleting everything from it and changing the permissions (if needed) to allow everyone logged in on that PC full read/write access. Could be Vantage was installed with the Admin account rather than the user's login and the "ownership" of the created folder is too restrictive.

Ok, I agree it does sound like permissions, do they have permission to the

I've checked that too
The user has read/write permissions on the C:\Temp and C:\vntgwork
folders.
Note the only way it the custom reports run is under the
administrator windows login, even I (part of the administrators goup)
can not run it under my windows logon.

Just for grins. Temporarily give everyone full control of the local
machine C:\vntgwork. Then try running your reports.

I recently encountered a permission 'situation' w/ Windows XP SP2. Go
to...

Control Panel>Admin Tools>Local Security Policy>Local Policies>
Security Options

...then scroll down to "Network access: Sharing and security
model for local accounts" and change the setting (double-click the
line). I had to change mine to "Classic - local users authenticate as
themselves".

Good Luck - John
John,

Thanks for the tip, unfortunately it did not solve this problem.

I missed what the original problem was regarding this fix. We recently
installed XP for 4 users and had security and printing issues. Maybe we can
shed some light for the group. We are using 6.1.
